TEDC honors Baytown/West Chambers Economic Development Foundation with the Community Economic Development Award
Wal-Mart - announced plans to build and operate
a massive distribution center in Cedar Crossing Business Park in Baytown, West
Chambers County. Wal-Mart will
begin construction of a 2 million square foot distribution center on a 296 acre
site. Facility should be operation
by summer 2005 and will employ 300-400 people. (The Baytown Sun, February 18,

CRIC Bayer LLC
-
has proposed building a 175,000 square foot warehouse south of the intersection
of FM565 and FM1405. CRIC Capital, a Boston-based real estate investment company
will lease from Bayer Corp. and will build the warehouse, which Bayer will lease
from CRIC Capital. Bayer will store plastics. The warehouse is a $6 million
construction project and will bring a total of 44 jobs into West Chambers

Seapac - a
packaging and distribution company opened its new 150,000-square foot warehouse
in Cedar Crossing Industrial Park to package and distribute plastic resin for
ExxonMobil Polypropylene Plant in Baytown. Seapac’s total warehouse space in
Baytown is approximately 1 million-square feet and 330 rail car spots. (The

Home Depot - Cedar Crossing, L.P. announced that it has sold a 40-acre tract of land to Home Depot for its 755,000 square foot warehouse distribution center with the option to purchase an additional 50 acres. The center will provide 252 new jobs and will serve as distribution base for the southwestern Unites States. (4/25/01)
CIM Industries - bought 5 acres at Cedar Crossing Business Park. Estimated investment will be $4 million with 10-12 employees. Company manufactures coatings and paint products. (Houston Chronicle 6/17/01)
TRW - waste oil cracking unit - $10 million - 15 jobs
Bailey Steel Service - David Bailey announced plans to build a 16,000 square foot, $780,000 facility to house a steel service supply company in Cedar Crossing Business Park. Will open with eight employees and projects growth to 25 employees its second year. Construction to be completed by June 1, 2000. (The Baytown Sun)
Innovative Recycling Solutions - announced plans to build a $17 million tire recycling facility on a 20-acre site adjacent to the Chambers County Incinerator. The plant will employ 34 people and is scheduled to begin construction in the 1st Quarter 2001. (9/25/00)
Ecolochem, Inc. -will relocate from Houston to Cedar Crossing within the next 18 months. Ecolochem is a major water purification systems provider. The Baytown facility will serve the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast area. The Baytown service center will employ some 50 people and is located on 10 purchased from USX Realty. Calpine Corporation - announced it has agreed to build, own and operate an 800 megawatt natural gas-fired cogeneration power plant at Bayer Corporation's site at Cedar Bayou. The $335 million facility will employ 300 workers at peak construction and the project will create between 24 and 28 new full-time jobs, employees who will live and work in the Baytown community. The Baytown plant will be one of the most efficient power plants to be build in Texas. (Baytown Sun -9/30/99)
S.I. Enterprises, LLC - is acquiring 15-20 acre site in Cedar Crossing Business Park. S. I. Warehousing Company Inc. commenced its operation in 11/90 in Houston, TX. It is a packaging, warehousing and distribution center for the Chemical Industry and other manufacturing companies involved in Domestic and International trade.
